Texas Adult Online FAQ’s
First time adult drivers between the age of 18 and 24, who have not previously held a driver license, must complete an approved Adult Driver Education program. After completing the course, individuals under the age of 25 have two options:
1. Apply for Texas learner’s permit.
2. Schedule Department of Public Safety Road Test (if you have the necessary driving experience).
The course is a six-hour online program which students can complete at their own pace. You will need a computer and internet access to complete the program. There are 8 modules to complete, the Class C exam, and the final exam.
The Final Completion certificate will be available for the student to download and print upon completion of the program. The certificate will allow you to schedule your road test or apply for your learner’s permit if you choose to drive prior to attempting the road test.
The Class C exam is equivalent to the permit test that is administered at the DPS when you apply for the learner’s permit.
Individuals 18 years and above can enroll in our state-approved online course, fulfilling the mandatory 6 hours of online instruction for those between 18 and 24 years old. Successful completion will enable you to proceed to applying for your learner’s permit or road test. **No certificate of completion will be issued to students over the age of 24.
Behind the wheel training is not required for the Online Adult Driver Education program. After successfully completing the All Star Adult course, passing both the Class C exam, and the final exam, you will receive a certificate that qualifies you to take the road test.
Individuals may not drive until a learner’s permit is obtained. Individuals must complete an approved driver’s course and take the Class C exam to apply for a learner’s permit (or go straight to taking the road test). For more information contact the Texas Department of Public Safety.
While there is no requirement to complete the program once you turn 25, doing so can provide you with valuable skills and knowledge, contributing to your safety and confidence as a driver!
