For drivers under 18 years old:
Must hold a Level 1 learner’s license for at least 6 months prior to road test
Log 50 hours of supervised driving with a licensed adult over 21 (10 hours at night). Use the Michigan Supervised Driving Log or the Road Ready App.
Drivers can take the road test early, but will not be eligible to obtain a license until 16 years of age.
18yrs or older: Pass a vision and knowledge test at the Secretary of State office.
18yrs or older: Pay required fees and get a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP).
18yrs or older: Practice driving with a TIP for at least 30 days
Previously licensed drivers who are able to obtain a Driving Skills Test Authorization Receipt (DSTAR) may be eligible to have the 30-day holding requirement waived.

Michigan Driving Test FAQ’s

Individuals from out of the state or country:

Failure to provide the required documents at the time of the road test will result in a failed road test. No refunds will be issued to an individual who does not provide the required documents. Individuals under 18 will not receive a refund if a parent or guardian is not present at the time of the road test.
At our Ann Arbor facility, rental vehicles can be arranged for an additional fee. To secure a rental vehicle, you must select this option at the time of enrollment into the road test, or call All Star in advance of your road test to request a rental vehicle.
You must wait at least 24 hours before you can complete a second road test attempt. No refund will be issued to an individual who fails the road test for any reason.
A minimum of 24 hours’ notice must be provided if you wish to cancel or reschedule your road test. No refund will be issued to an individual who provides less than 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule their road test. A 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule may be provided via detailed voicemail or email. There is no refund due to an individual who does not show up for their road test.
