Indiana Licensing Check Points

1. Certificate of Driver Education Enrollment

Once enrolled in behind-the-wheel training, students should request a Certificate of Driver Education Enrollment (CDE) from the registered company.

2. Learner’s License

A student may apply for a driving permit at 15 years old, provided they have enrolled in an approved behind-the-wheel program and obtained a CDE

3. Probationary License

Students aged 16 years and 3 months who have finished Driver Education can get a Probationary license after having a Learner’s permit for 180 days.

The Road to Freedom

All Star is dedicated to supporting teens throughout their entire driver's license journey. From classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training to obtaining a learner's permit and passing the road test, we are here to provide the resources and support necessary to succeed.

Students become eligible at 15 years old. The program includes 30 hours of online instruction. Students who are 16 years old are not required to complete a Driver Education program to obtain a Learner’s permit.

After a student is enrolled in an approved Behind the-Wheel program, a CDE should be requested from the school at which they are enrolled. The CDE will be required by the Indiana BMV and serves as proof that the student is enrolled in a Behind-the Wheel program.

To apply for the Learner’s Permit a student must provide a CDE, complete a knowledge and vision screening and present documents that establish
your: Identity
  • Social Security number
  • Lawful status
  • Indiana residency (2 unique documents)
  • Other Learner’s Permit Requirements

Once you have your learner's permit you will need to complete 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a certified instructor.

Upon receiving a Learner’s permit, students must complete 50 hours, including 10 hours at night, of supervised practice driving with a licensed parent or guardian who is 25 years old. A Log of Supervised Driving Practice must be maintained.

Students are eligible to attempt the Driving test after holding a Learner’s permit for 180 days and completing 50 hours of supervised practice driving (including 10 hours at night). Students who complete Driver Education classes and behind-the wheel training are eligible to complete the Road Test with All Star. Requirements on road test day:
  • Valid Learner’s permit
  • Log of Supervised Driving Practice
  • Driver Education proof of completion
  • Parent or guardian authorization

At the age of 16 years and 3 months, upon passing the driving test, the student will be issued their Probationary license. View Probationary license restrictions for additional details. Upon reaching the age of 21 the Probationary status of the student’s license will be lifted!
